Happy Friday at Jewett,

It has been another great week here at school! We have student volunteers who have taken over the responsibility of reading our morning announcements. They are doing an amazing job! Their energy and enthusiasm is a great way to start any day.

The Manchester School District and the Buck Institute have teamed up to bring Project Based Learning to our Manchester Schools. During the summer many of our classroom teachers were trained in project based learning and spent time developing projects that the will use in their classrooms for this school year. The goal for the school district to have 80% of our children take part in two project based learning projects this year. PBL is a great hands on, team building approach, showing students how what they are learning in the classroom ties into real world application. We are excited about this opportunity and I am looking forward to the amazing projects that our children will be taking part in.

Manchester Proud, a representative group of our community's businesses, colleges and universities, non-for-profits, and civic organizations, will be dedicating time and resources to support the development of a new strategic plan for the school district to respond to the need to improve our schools.

The first step is for Manchester Proud is to gather information about the needs for our school district. Liz Canada works for Reaching Higher NH as the Director of Community Engagement. The bulk of her work will be in Manchester, to support the work of Manchester Proud. As part of Liz's information gathering she wants to set up a day here at Jewett to meet with all the various stakeholders from our school. This is called a listening day. Liz will be here on Thursday December 6th. The goal is to establish times for people to meet and speak with her. Below is the outline of who she would like to speak with, the size of the groups, etc: We have set two times for parents to come and meet with Liz. We will have a listening session at 7:30 am here in the Jewett library. We will have a second listening session at 5:30 pm here at the Jewett library. I welcome parents to come and join us.
