It is the mission of the Manchester School District Library Media Centers to empower and inspire all learners to reach their greatest potential in a global community.

The Jewett Street School Library Media Center serves all students, staff and parents of the school. It is a learning environment that by use of books, technology, and other educational media, students will become accomplised readers, thinkers and information-seekers.

The Library Media Specialist often collaborates with classroom teachers to provide instruction that is supportive of student learning at each grade level. Also, students spend forty-five minutes each week in the Library Media Center. A portion of this time is devoted to selecting library books to take out or independent, silent reading. Each class time visit also has an instructional component which correlates with the Manchester Academic Standards, ISTE Standards and/or the AASL 21st Century Standards. In primary grades, library visits will focus on basic library etiquette and literature appreciation. In the intermediate grades, library instruction focuses on information literacy (the ability to locate, access, evaluate, and utilize information). Multimedia materials are also incorporated into our library lessons.
The general library collection has over 11,000 printed books as well as access to an online digital library that contains over 11,000 eBooks. Our Library Media Center contains VHS tapes and DVDs for classroom use and has three Windows 10 computers that can be used to search our catalog and for online research. We also have a cart of thirty Chromebooks that are used in our various library media skills and technology classes and can also be signed out for other classroom use.  Kindergarten through second grade have tech tubs of five chromebooks in each classroom.  Third through fifth grade has a cart of thirty chromebooks per grade for classroom use.

About Your Library Media Specialist

Hello Jewett Families!

My name is Mrs. Baker and I am the Library Media Specialist. Before I joined the Jewett St. School family in the fall of 2011, I was one of two Library Media      Specialist at Manchester West High School. I have a Bachelor’s degree in  History and have my Teacher Certification in Library Media Science. I love to  read and learn new things. When I’m not in school, I enjoy spending time  with my husband, daughter, son, our dog and cat. We like to travel, go to the  beach, and watch movies together.
I look forward to getting to know each of you and your families.

                                                           Mrs. Baker
