January 2019

Happy Friday at Jewett,

We had another great week here at Jewett. The students have started taking the IReady assessment for the second time this year. We use this assessment tool to help us gauge the reading and math growth in our students 1st through 5th grade. The students take the assessments three times throughout the course of the school year. The teachers use the data to help them determine student growth and student areas of need. The students have also been participating in the IReady mini lessons. These lessons can be accessed by students and they are tailored to each student’s academic need based on assessment results. It is another way to reinforce the academic skills necessary to help with academic success.

We have had issues involving late bus picks ups in the afternoon for our afternoon Pre K students. If the school gets the information early enough about a late bus we will make every effort to contact the parents of the students on that specific bus to let them know in advance. However, the majority of the time we do not find out about late buses until the afternoon pick up has started. We have been told by the bus company, Student Transport Services (STS) that they make calls to parents if the buses are late. I will also try and send an email through school messenger just to Pre K parents informing them of late buses. If you have any questions or concerns in regards to this, please call STS at 668-8603.

From the Nurse’s Office:

Parents have been sending cough-drops for their children.....

Manchester does have a policy in regards to them:

Students need be assessed for for signs of infection or illness prior to taking. they can only be taken every 2 hours, nor more than 3 a day, and not for more than 2 consecutive school days.

Contraindications are Nausea and vomiting, severe cough with wheezing, if a cough has lasted more than 2 days and is accompanied by a fever, or if a sore throat is severe and persists for more than 2 days. These cases should be evaluated by a doctor.

Parents of 5th graders should send in physicals that are done this school year - as they will be required for middle school. Middle school requires a physical is presented that is within one year of the start date of school in the fall.

Reminders:

Please do not park in the traffic circle in front of the school unless you have a pink pass. Finally, the traffic circle is a one direction only, please do not reverse and go out the in direction.

If you drop your child off after 8:45 am please make sure you sign them in at the office.

If your child is out sick please make sure you call the school to notify us of the illness/absence. Our number is (603)624-6336.
