Today’s Word of the Day is RECENTER, which means, "To move yourself back to a calm, focused state where you are ready to learn following a time of stress."

Re- is a prefix that means “again”. The Latin word centrum and the Ancient Greek word kentron both mean “center”. At the simplest level, “recenter” means “center again.”

Children frequently need some down time after a stressful moment in their classroom. When they are able to get themselves recentered--through deep breaths, quiet time, drawing, kinesthetic activities, et cetera--they will be in a calm, focused state and ready to return to class.

When she becomes stressed in class, she takes deep breaths to recenter herself.
