Today's Word of the Day is CONSEQUENCEConsequence is a noun meaning, "The result of an action."

The etymology (word history) for consequence is an interesting one. It comes from the Old French word consequence (very different pronunciation from our word) meaning "Result", which came from the Latin word consequentia, meaning, "To follow after."

In American English, consequence has a negative connotation; in other words, we tend to think of consequences in terms of bad behavior. There can be positive consequences that are a result of a positive action.
