104.1 Curriculum Management

The written curriculum is a pre-K to 12 standards-based curriculum that scaffolds to expectations for graduation and is aligned to the Manchester Academic Standards.

  1. Vertical alignment of the curriculum ensures that students build on their learning as they progress through grade levels. Concepts introduced at one grade level serve as a foundation for new learning and will be reinforced at higher levels; the emphasis of the learning is at a higher level of thinking or includes additional information.

  2. Horizontal alignment of the curriculum ensures that students engage in a curriculum that is common and equitable to all students of the same grade level or content area and supports the intended curriculum.

All courses offered within the Manchester School District will be supported by a written curriculum that is aligned to rigorous standards stressing depth over breadth. Curriculum specialists and classroom teachers will collaborate to establish a common format for curriculum guides and vetting process that involves feedback from colleagues.

All curriculum guides shall include strategies for integrating 21st Century skills, as outlined by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.

Taught Curriculum

Curriculum specialists and classroom teachers will identify research-based instructional strategies that effectively and innovatively support the delivery of the curriculum. The Curriculum Management Plan will include a process to review strategies to ensure alignment of the written, tested, and taught curriculum.

All teachers shall teach the written curriculum and professional development experiences shall include opportunities to expand one’s repertoire of effective, research-based instructional strategies.

Evaluated Curriculum

The Manchester School District Curriculum Management Plan will include a process for review of curriculum documents, assessments, and research-based instructional strategies.

District administrators, curriculum specialists and classroom teachers shall conduct periodic curriculum evaluations to determine the effectiveness of the curriculum and instructional program. Data used for analysis will include, but will not be limited to, student growth, student achievement, and student enrollment patterns.
