208 Employee Professional Ethics

It is the policy of the Manchester School District that all employees have the right to be treated with respect in their working and learning environments.  Every employee, believing in the worth and dignity of each human being, recognizes the supreme importance of the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, and the nurture of the democratic principles.  The Manchester School District recognizes the magnitude of responsibility inherent in the teaching process.  The desire for the respect and confidence of one’s colleagues, of students, of parents, and of the members of the community provides the foundation to attain and maintain the highest possible degree of ethical conduct.

To attain and maintain the highest possible degree of ethical conduct, all persons engaged in educational work and support positions in the Manchester School District whether in teaching, administrative, supervisory or support capacities, must observe high standards of conduct across all forms of communications in their professional relationships, both in and out of school.  These standards include:

  • All employees in relations with students, parents or others, are expected to be just, courteous and professional.

  • All employees in relation with students, parents or others have the right to be treated with respect in their working and learning environments.  Respectful behavior is defined as courteous regard or treatment.

  • In order to ensure a climate characterized by mutual respect and professional ethics, common courtesy and civil behavior will be exercised in all situations.

  • Educators shall base all interaction and relationships with students and colleagues upon mutual respect and trust; an understanding of the appropriate boundaries in an educational setting ; and behaviors consistent with the education mission of our school;

  • Educators and staff should appreciate the importance of their contribution to society;

All employees are obligated to observe and follow District policies and procedures and to maintain proper professional and ethical standards of conduct at all times. Employees are encouraged to report any conduct that interferes with the orderly and efficient operation of the District’s workplace, and to report any violation of the standards set forth in this policy.
